Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. Currently working in the community setting as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS), she has a private practice in Child Life and works for an international children’s ministry. In both her positions, she comes alongside military-connected children, youth, and families with specific programming and psychosocial services to address military family life stressors and pediatric health disparities among military communities. As a military spouse, Savannah has experienced frequent relocations, which has often meant limited opportunities and barriers to practicing Child Life. Savannah volunteers extensively within the hospital setting to maintain her clinical, hospital-based Child Life skills and provides dynamic Child Life services through medical camps, professional education, and private practice sessions for civilian and military communities. Our Strong Roots in Play & Psychosocial Support Child Life began in the early 1900s to promote normalcy and development for children and families in isolated hospital environments where parental separation abounded. Children’s resilience and mastery over their experience came primarily through play, socialization, and therapeutic expression supported by the Child Life Specialist.
